Our Story
At Dog Park Ready Family Dog Training LLC, our journey began with a rescue dog named Sergio, a shy and worried Pit/Sighthound mix that was first seen laying in the lobby of the San Francisco SPCA in 1997. Scott Malvestiti, the owner of our company, was so moved by Sergio's story that he decided to adopt him and started his journey as a dog trainer. With the help of a clicker training class at the SPCA, Scott was able to overcome Sergio's initial fears and anxiety, and the two became inseparable.
As Sergio's training progressed, Scott started to realize the importance of providing a safe and controlled environment for dogs to learn and socialize. This led him to start Canine In The City, a dog walking service that focused on working with dogs that had "issues" or were not easily manageable by other dog walkers.
As Canine In The City grew, Scott expanded the business by opening a daycare/training facility called Citydog Playcare, which allowed him to work with more dogs and provide a safer environment for socialization and learning. Unfortunately, the real estate prices in San Francisco became too high, and Citydog Playcare was forced to close its doors. However, Scott didn't give up, and he shifted his focus back to off-leash walks and opened an oceanfront office in San Francisco.
Over the years, Canine in the City was featured in the Bay Guardian's Superlist issue and won the award for Best Dog Walker in the 2002 SF Weekly's Best of San Francisco issue. In 2000, Scott married one of his clients, and in 2006, they started their human family.
In July 2016, Scott moved his family to Atlanta, hoping to find a better place to raise his children. However, Atlanta didn't have the same need for dog walking services, so Scott decided to return to his roots and focus on the training aspect. This led to the development of the Dog Park Ready program, which aims to help families get the dog they dream of, whether it's on or off a leash.
