Vallejo Dog Training Club

At Vallejo Dog Training Club, we are a California non-profit organization of dog enthusiasts dedicated to promoting dog training, hosting and participating in AKC events, and advocating for the humane treatment of dogs. As a sanctioned member of the American Kennel Club, we have been in existence since 1948, and our members come from diverse backgrounds and breeds. Whether you have a champion pedigree dog or a humble mutt, all dogs are welcome to enroll in our classes.

Our Philosophy

At VDTC, we believe in using reward-based training methods grounded in the science of animal behavior. We reject the use of force, intimidation, or pain, and instead, employ rewards such as food, toys, play, and praise to motivate and engage our dogs in the training process. Our goal is to create a fun and rewarding experience for both the dog and the handler.

Our mission is to protect and advance the welfare of all dogs, promote humane training methods, and support the education of dog handlers. We strive to build trusting relationships between people and their dogs, recognizing the importance of reducing fear, anxiety, and stress in both humans and animals. By promoting cooperation and good sportsmanship in dog training and competitions, we foster a culture of mutual respect and understanding between dogs and their handlers.

Our Classes

We offer a variety of fun and engaging classes for dogs of all ages and breeds. From pet dog training to competition-level training, our classes cater to the unique needs and goals of each dog and handler. Our Pet Dog Classes provide a supportive and social environment for dogs and their handlers to learn new skills and reinforce existing ones. Our Rally, Obedience, and Competition classes help dogs and handlers fine-tune their skills and prepare for AKC events.

Pet Dog Class Information

Our Pet Dog Classes are designed for dogs of all ages and breeds. As a pet dog class student, you will receive:

Puppy Preschool

Our Puppy Preschool is a structured, on-leash class designed specifically for puppies 5 months and under. This class provides a safe and fun environment for puppies to socialize and learn essential behaviors, such as attention/focus, come, sit, down, and hand target.

Beginning Manners A

Our Beginning Manners A class is a positive reinforcement, indoor training class for non-reactive dogs of all ages with proof of age-appropriate vaccinations. In this class, dogs will learn to focus on their handlers in a group environment while practicing basic skills such as sit, down, stay, hand target, leave it, and recall games.
