Welcome to the Sarasota Obedience Training Club (SOTC), a non-profit organization dedicated to the training of dogs and improving Canine/Human relationships. Established in 1962, SOTC is committed to using positive methods to train dogs through a variety of methods to be good companions for their owners and responsible and well-behaved members of our community.
Our Mission
Our mission is to use positive training methods in our classes to enhance the partnership that we all desire to have with our beloved pets. We strive to use positive training methods to help others become happy, responsible dog owners, and for their dogs to be happy, healthy, and socially acceptable. Whether you are just beginning to train your new puppy or rescue dog, or if you want to compete with your dogs in trials and events, SOTC has a class offering for you and your dog.
Our Services
SOTC offers a variety of dog training services, including Agility, Obedience, Rally, Flyball, Scentwork, and Puppy Training classes. Our instructors and assistants have years of experience, actively participate in showing or competing with their dogs, and all strive for a positive training experience for you. We also offer specialty classes, such as AKC Trick Dog Title Class, and competitive events like Obedience and Agility Trials.

Our board of directors is comprised of dedicated dog lovers who are passionate about dog training and improving Canine/Human relationships. Each of our board members brings unique skills and experiences to the table.
Meet Our President
Our president, Jan Wencel, has been a member of SOTC for over 10 years and has served on the board in various capacities, including as president for three years. With over 20 years of experience in college administration and teaching, she brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to the board. Jan is dedicated to using positive training methods and believes that every dog can benefit from training.
Meet Our Vice President
Our vice president, Melinda Mello, is a retired computer scientist who has always had a passion for animals and nature. She is an avid agility competitor with her cockerpoo Wasabi and miniature poodle Kahuna. Melinda has been a member of SOTC for over five years and is dedicated to sharing her passion for agility with new students.
Meet Our Secretary
Our secretary, Sally Booker, has been a dog owner for most of her life and has been involved in professional dog training for over 20 years. She has worked with dogs in various capacities, including showing and competing in obedience. Sally has served on various boards and is dedicated to using her skills to benefit the club and its members.
