Creating harmonious relationships between people and pets.

Protect the Pets! is a dedicated initiative to protect the health and well-being of animals by promoting responsible pet care and vaccination practices. Founded by Dr. John Robb, a renowned veterinary medicine professional, our mission is to allow veterinarians to make decisions that are in the best interest of an animal's health, prevent over-vaccination, and bring awareness to pet owners about the dangers of over-vaccination.

Dr. Robb, a respected doctor of veterinary medicine from Connecticut, received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Davis in 1981 and his DVM from the same institution in 1985. He began his practice at New Haven Central Veterinary Hospital and later purchased the New Fairfield Veterinary Hospital in 1988, renaming it the Robb Animal Care Center in 1997. Dr. Robb established Community Appreciation Days, offering free exams and vaccinations to people who could not afford veterinary care.

In April of 1999, Dr. Robb sold the Care Center to Veterinary Centers of America (VCA) and continued to work as an associate veterinarian and then Medical Director at VCA Northside in Danbury until his departure in 2005. In 2007, Dr. Robb bought and ran Farmington Valley Emergency Hospital in Avon, Connecticut, where he treated every pet regardless of the owner's financial situation. This 24-hour care facility for critically ill pets demonstrated Dr. Robb's unwavering commitment to pets over profits.

Dr. Robb bought a franchise from Banfield Pet Hospital in 2008, but faced opposition from the Mars Candy Bar Company, which prioritized profits over pet lives. Mars illegally dissolved franchise agreements and attempted to gain control of all 900 Banfield hospitals. Dr. Robb refused to be bought or blackmailed, leading Mars to terminate the franchise agreement at his Banfield Hospital in Stamford, Connecticut, without compensation. Mars threatened to report Dr. Robb to the State Board of Veterinary Medicine if he "wouldn't go quietly." Dr. Robb insisted on choosing the volume of rabies vaccine he injected into pets, which led to the beginning of a worldwide movement to protect pets by amending rabies laws to honor the measuring of circulating antibodies.

Dr. Robb has experienced the toxic effect of the drive for productivity and profitability on animal care throughout his career. His commitment to pets over profits has earned him the love and respect of pet owners. While some in the industry want to silence him, he has become a voice and a leader for animal care professionals who want to live their passion and provide the very best in care to our animal companions.

Our Services

At Protect the Pets!, we offer a range of services aimed at promoting responsible pet care and vaccination practices. Our primary focus is on educating pet owners about the dangers of over-vaccination and promoting the use of rabies virus antibody titers as a substitute for determining the need for booster vaccinations. We believe that by working together with pet owners, veterinarians, and public health professionals, we can create a safer and healthier environment for animals.

Our services include:

1. Educational Resources: We provide pet owners with accurate and up-to-date information on responsible pet care, vaccination schedules, and the risks associated with over-vaccination. We also offer educational materials and resources for veterinarians and public health professionals.

2. Advocacy: We advocate for changes in rabies laws to ensure that pets are protected from unnecessary vaccinations and to promote the use of rabies virus antibody titers as a substitute for determining the need for booster vaccinations.

3. Community Engagement: We engage with local communities to raise awareness about the importance of responsible pet care and vaccination practices. We work closely with local animal shelters, veterinary clinics, and pet supply stores to reach out to pet owners and promote our mission.

4. Research and Development: We conduct research on the latest advancements in veterinary medicine, particularly in the area of rabies vaccination and the use of rabies virus antibody titers. We also collaborate with other organizations and institutions to develop new and innovative approaches to pet care and vaccination practices.

Our Goals

At Protect the Pets!, our goals are simple yet ambitious:

1. Prevent Over-Vaccination: We aim to prevent animals from being over-vaccinated, which can lead to illness or death.

2. Promote Responsible Pet Care: We want to educate pet owners about the importance of responsible pet care and vaccination practices.

3. Amend Rabies Laws: We strive to amend the rabies laws to ensure that pets are protected from unnecessary vaccinations and to promote the use of rabies virus antibody titers as a substitute for determining the need for booster vaccinations.

4. Create a Healthier Environment for Animals: We believe that by working together, we can create a safer and healthier environment for animals.

By joining us in our mission to protect pets from over-vaccination and promote responsible pet care, you can help make a difference in the lives of animals everywhere.
