Established in the early 1950s, Sauvie Island Kennels has a rich history that spans multiple decades. What began as Lake Tree Kennels, a facility for working retrievers, has evolved over the years through several ownership changes. In 1988, Tim and Angela Schillereff acquired the property and embarked on a comprehensive renovation and remodeling project. Today, Sauvie Island Kennels is renowned as a premier boarding and training facility serving the greater Portland metropolitan area and beyond.

Dog Boarding: Our luxurious facilities are designed to provide a comfortable and stimulating environment for dogs of all breeds and sizes. Each dog is provided with a clean indoor sleeping area and a full outdoor run.
Cat Boarding: Our cattery is designed to provide a safe and comfortable environment for felines. Each cat is provided with a full floor-to-ceiling cat condo and a large window with a view.

Training Services

At Sauvie Island Kennels, we understand the importance of proper training for your pet. Our experienced trainers offer a range of training programs designed to help you and your pet develop a strong bond and enhance your pet's behavior.

Obedience Training: Our all-breed obedience program is designed to teach your dog the basics of good manners, including sit, stay, down, come, heel, and no, both on and off lead.
Upland Bird Dog Training: Our comprehensive training program is designed to teach your pointing dog to work for you, expose your dog to a variety of game birds, and introduce your dog to the concept of the gun in a positive manner.
AKC Canine Good Citizen: Our AKC Canine Good Citizen program is designed to reward dogs who exhibit good manners at home and in the community. Our training enhances the bond between you and your dog, and you will discover the many benefits and pleasures of working with your pet.
