At Minoggie Kennels, we are a family-owned and operated business located on a 150-acre farm on Sauvie Island, just 20 minutes from downtown Portland, Oregon. We take pride in offering a wide range of excellent services, from dog boarding to obedience training, but are best known for our reputation for training retrievers that excel in hunting and competitive field events.
Our team, led by Doug and Kim Shade, has a deep passion for working with dogs and has been doing so for over 38 years. We have built a reputation for providing top-notch training programs, including our intensive Hunt Test training program, our 60-day fetch-it-up program for gun dogs, and our obedience training for dogs of all breeds. Our boarding facilities are clean, comfortable, and provide daily off-leash walks for all our furry guests.
Our Story
Doug Shade, our lead trainer, has been working with dogs since the summer of 1984. What started as a job became a career, and he soon found himself hooked on training hunt test dogs. Over the years, Doug has qualified dogs 100 times, with 22 of them receiving their Master National Hunter titles from the AKC, earning a place in the Master National Hall of Fame. Kim Shade, our co-trainer, has always had a special connection with dogs and has been working at Minoggie Kennels since 2000. Together, they make a formidable team, combining their expertise and passion for working with dogs to provide exceptional services to our clients.
